(Late) Spring Chicken Run : July 2026
The day commenced with entrants arriving at Harper’s Restaurant (Chiltern View Garden Centre, Stoke Mandeville) from 9.00am. Having signed on they were soon tucking into their breakfast snack, and reading through their Tulip Roadbook.
By 10.30am everyone had departed on the first Tulip route, and were heading through the Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire villages to the Oxford Bus Museum at Long Hanborough. Here we were able to browse the story of 140 years of bus and coach travel, then move onto the Morris Motors Museum depicting the motor empire of William Morris, and conclude with the Historic Cycles Museum showing cycle development since 1817.
It was soon time to head off on the second Tulip route, which took us over the historic Toll Bridge at Cumnor (still a 5p toll!), through Abingdon the home of MG, and onto the Mercure Thame Lambert Hotel at Lewknor. Here we were served a full Afternoon Tea, and some of us soon became stumped, our stomachs full of sandwiches, scones and cakes.
Our thanks to Graham and Neil for devising two very pleasant routes through the countryside, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.

Pride of Ownership : June 2026
Tuesday 23rd June at Little Hay Golf Complex in Bovingdon, and it is not quite the hottest evening of the year, although it felt like it. This gave some trepidation as to whether everyone would arrive, and a few did have their troubles on the way but were not deterred.
The entrants started arriving from 5.30pm. Some 55 cars had pre-entered and 87 BBQ’s had been ordered so it was going to be a busy evening. Whilst a couple of entrants were unfortunately without their cars due to the heat, some unexpected entrants kept the numbers up.
The Pre ’55 cars were out in force with MMM, SVW and Y Types represented amongst a range of T Types. The MGA’s were joined by a ZA Magnette, and the MG Midgets were given a Class of their own this year. There was a strong field of MGB’s and MGC’s, whilst the Class for MGF’s/TF’s also included two RV8’s and a MG HS.
The non MG Class was particularly strong this year with the delightful Maserati 4CS taking the top award, closely followed by the ex Dick Protheroe racing Jaguar E Type recently featured in Octane magazine. The Class also included a C Type Jaguar, another E Type, Lotus Cortina, Daimler SP250 and BMW Z3M to mention a few.
There were also two Special Awards for regular Natter members that went to Don Sanderson in his MGB Roadster and Trish Cecile-Pritchard in her ‘very loud’ Aston Martin AMR.
Afterwards a great BBQ was enjoyed by everyone in the Clubhouse, and some lucky entrants went home with raffle prizes as well as their Trophies.

Yet again our visit to The Henley Business School for our Sunday Lunch Meet was in glorious sunshine. We were pleased to welcome 62 Natterers to the event, who enjoyed an excellent three course Sunday Carvery Lunch. We were also joined by five cars from the Jaguar Drivers Club, who we had met at a Lunch Meet earlier in the year. The day continued for most outside on the terrace, where everyone enjoyed the beautiful location on the edge of the River Thames until late in the afternoon.

For 2025 our Quiz Evening was once more at Chartridge Park Golf Club on Tuesday 28th October 2025. Ten tables of enthusiastic quizzers sat down and applied their brains to nine rounds of questions. The evening was run by Keith, Ann, Mark and Jenn to whom we offer a big ‘Thank You’ for their great efforts, and which was a great success.
To the overall winners, team number 9, ‘The Bartenders’, led by Chris Hayward and his merry band we offer our congratulations. Two teams, The 2 Nigels Et All (no 6) and The Hip Hip Hooray (no 8) tied for second place which is a Natter quiz first, only four points split the first three teams, well done all! A hot meal sponsored by the Natter, was served during the interval, when we were looked after by the friendly golf club staff.
We would also like to thank all our members and friends for your support on the evening.

Our new approach for 2025 was a mid-week event – with the advantage that venues are more welcoming and cheaper then.
This attracted an entry of 35 cars.
After breakfast at Little Hay Golf Club in Bovingdon we headed off with Tulip Roadbooks for a 50 mile drive that had been prepared by Graham and Neil. After a couple of hours, or so, most had arrived at our destination – The Shuttleworth Collection. Apologies to those who encountered route problems!!
For most the first stop was the Runway Café or their picnic, but we all found plenty to occupy the afternoon with six hangers of vintage aircraft and other vehicles, together with an Engineering Workshop and The Swiss Garden.
This attracted an entry of 35 cars.

The entrants included a racing TA from the pre-war era, both a Saloon and Tickford VA, together with a good range of T Types and MGA’s, plus plenty of MGB/C’s and Midgets. Hopefully the MGF’s and more modern MG’s will return in greater numbers next year. There were also two Special Awards for regular Natter members that went to Martin Horsted in his MG TD and Paul Castaldini in his Healey Sports.
Afterwards a great BBQ was enjoyed by everyone in the Clubhouse, and some lucky entrants went home with raffle prizes.

A group of 49 Natterers descended on The Henley Business School and enjoyed an excellent three course Sunday Carvery Lunch. The glorious sunny day allowed us to sit outside on the terrace, and enjoy the beautiful location on the edge of the River Thames until late in the afternoon.
Mid-Month Natter Lunch : February 2025

The damp and miserable weather drove us to having a mid-month Natter Lunch in February. So a group of 25 Natterers descended on The Ivy House at Chalfont St Giles for lunch.
We were well looked after by the staff, and despite our number all our meals were served together and piping hot. Most attending then found a space for a pudding, and it was after 4.00pm before some left, so we reckon they must have enjoyed the event, which will be repeated. |
Annual Quiz Night 2024
For 2024 the Quiz Evening returned to Chartridge Park Golf Club on Tuesday 22nd October 2024. Eight tables of enthusiastic quizzers sat down and applied their brains to nine rounds of questions from Chris, Mark & Matt. The questions were well judged to ensure
a competitive event, which added to the fun. Having secured the wooden spoon last year The Cross Threads were in good form, and came a close second. A particularly good team was Last Ford, given that they were down to a team of four, and competing with those who had seven on their table. The eventual winners were The Spridgeteers, with Coming Up Roses collecting the wooden spoon award this year.

MG Natter Mid-Month Lunch - July 2024

A spur of the moment decision with a beautiful sunny day forecast stirred 19 Natterers to descend on the Bricklayers Arms in Flaunden for lunch.
The location of the Pub down narrow twisty lanes (with the inevitable pot holes) ensured a country drive in the MG’s. These lunches need to be arranged at short notice so do let us know if you are not on the circulation for details and you will be added. |

In fantastic weather, which was ordered months in advance at no extra cost to the entrants, our Pride of Ownership was on Tuesday 25th June 2024. The event took place at Little Hay Golf Complex in Bovingdon, where we have the benefit of a large car park and the use of their bar and catering facilities.
From 5.00pm entrants started arriving, with a total of 45 cars contesting the ten trophies that were available. There were also two Special Awards for regular Natter members that went to Colin Davenport in his MG TF 1500 and Peter Keane in his Jaguar XKR. The latter just to prove that we do welcome other classics.
A very enjoyable BBQ was enjoyed by everyone in the Clubhouse afterwards, and some lucky entrants went home with raffle prizes.

The Roadbook alerted us to numerous places of interest on the route, before we arrived at our destination of The Henley Business School (Greenlands Hotel) just outside Henley.
As the 35 cars arrived a fine display emerged, and we were soon sitting down to an excellent Carvery Sunday Lunch overlooking the River Thames.
With the glorious sunshine on the day many then took advantage of a walk around the grounds and down to the riverside.
The Roadbook alerted us to numerous places of interest on the route, before we arrived at our destination of The Henley Business School (Greenlands Hotel) just outside Henley.
As the 35 cars arrived a fine display emerged, and we were soon sitting down to an excellent Carvery Sunday Lunch overlooking the River Thames.

For 2024 the Annual Dinner returned to Restaurant Rucola in Little Chalfont, but at a slightly later date in the year to avoid the adverse weather we have previously encountered in January.

Annual Quiz Night 2023
This year’s event was held at Chartridge Park Golf Club on Tuesday 24th October 2023. Seven tables of eager quizzers sat down and applied their brains to nine rounds of questions from Nigel, Henny, Joe and Don. A strong win came from team Friends United, followed by Under Pressure and Wot Evva with The Cross Threads securing the wooden spoon award.

de Havilland Aircraft Museum Visit
On 12th July 2023 a group of 20 members enjoyed a visit to the de Havilland Aircraft Museum at London Colney. We were treated to an intriguing Tour by the Museum’s Chairman, who is also an avid classic car enthusiast, and after light refreshments in the café we continued to explore the many exhibits and displays. Members were amazed at the strength of the laminated timber aircraft construction used until the early 50’s, and enjoyed being able to see the internal construction of the Comet 1 on display, and the demonstration Merlin engine.

Tring Brewery Tour : March 2023
Having had a Natter visit to Tring Brewery when it was in premises in Tring town centre, members had expressed enthusiasm for a visit to the Brewery’s new premises on the outskirts of Tring. An enthusiastic group enjoyed the Tour which included a thorough explanation of their brewing process for all their varieties of real ales, together with an unlimited supply of ale throughout the evening and an excellent fish and chips supper. |

We are delighted that 70 people were able to attend the Spring Chicken run event this year. It was a fantastic day, the route was very well planned, finishing at the lovely Greenlands Hotel near Henley on the banks of the River Thames, where we had lunch. A huge thanks to everyone who attended and to everyone who was part of the organising team. Another great event! |
